This report focuses on a coalfired power plant and pulp and paper mill in Tha Tum, Thailand, which are part of the Prachinburi Province's largest industrial complex loed 120 km to the EastNorthEast from Bangkok, and km south from the Prachinburi River. Coal contains mercury that is released into the environment when the coal is burned.
The coal is contaminated with iron pyrites, which makes it prone to spontaneous combustion, resulting in a number of fires. The colliery supplied mostly local needs, which included, at various times, a distillery, a woollen mill and a brick works.
